Two + One
« He plays the tough guy a bit, but deep down, he's a big soft teddy bear. »
Heard in the film
Zoé and Lucas’s first kiss dates from 22 July 2019, on the shore of the lake at Hommes. Four years later, to the day, they were getting married in Vallères, near Tours. You can’t invent that kind of detail: we only had to listen to them for the film to write itself.
It all began at the Manufacture, where Lucas works: an invitation to a party, and five or six hours spent outside, talking. At that point in their lives, nobody would have bet on a story that would take them this far. They say so themselves, smiling.
The film opens like a rap video, and nothing is staged. During the party, Lucas and his friends slipped off to the car park, into the back of a car, for a toast. We followed them, both of us: Kylian lighting, Lucile filming, and the groom dropped an improvised freestyle that fully deserved to open his film. Being a couple of videographers means covering two places at once; that evening, it meant being two in the right place.
Then the film drifts towards tenderness, exactly as Zoé puts it in front of our camera: « He plays the tough guy a bit, but deep down, he’s a big soft teddy bear. » Around them, two families that have become one: his parents consider her their daughter, her parents consider him their son.
And then there is the title. Two years before the wedding, a diagnosis had led them to believe they would never have children. « Two + One » is the two of them, and Matteo, the one they had stopped waiting for. He has the last word of the film: a little cry, right at the very end.
Our angle
A film that opens like a rap video, the tough guy, then drifts towards tenderness: the three of them, with Matteo.
